Setup was easy - Add Oil & Gas one pull cord and up and running
We have used over the last 3 days to power fridge, 2 fans, charge mobile phones and laptops and run a few lights. We are getting approx a run time of just over 13 hours on one tank (4 gallon) of gas. Last night even hooked up the tv and cable so our son could watch some tv. Nick, Nick, Nick, Nickeloden. :) This morning it powered the coffee maker and iron so we could be awake and wrinkle free. I really did not expect the generator to run as long as it did on one tank so very happy with the purchase. Next thing to purchase is something to cover it in case of heavy rain. Setup a tarp over table with bungee cords last night but would like something quicker to setup. If we continue to have the power outage problem here in Oak Park we may look into the natural gas generator that hooks into electric system and fails over automatically. As always we will try to get it from Amazon our favorite store. We give...

Appears to handle the task
I purchased this generator through an on line auction. After filling with oil and gasoline it started on the second pull. I also purchased a transfer switch to control six circuits (Reliance Model# 31406crk). The generator provides enough power to run my furnace, two refrigerators, a small freezer and some house lights. I would also recommend purchase of the wheel kit. I have only used this generator in a test situation. I don't know how well it will perform for an extended period or if the noise level will become annoying after an extended time.

Cost-effective Emergency Power
I bought this generator in preparation for hurricane Irene. Ordered it on Wen., it arrived on Fri., just in time to set it up before the storm (can't beat Amazon Prime!). The generator was easy to set up and started in one pull. This generator provided power sufficient to run the refrigerator, a mini-split a/c unit, TV, and a couple of fluorescent lights for two days. Under this load, a full tank (4 gallons) lasted around 12-14 hours. This unit appears to be a Chinese import so I do have my doubts about long-term reliability, never the less, the DS4000 appears surprisingly well-constructed and capable for the price. Pros: Inexpensive Easy to Operate Relatively Quiet (compared to a 22" lawn mower) Compact Easy to read fuel gauge Cons: Recommended oil change interval of 20 hours (change the oil every other time you fill the gas tank?) Oil drain obscured by frame below (as oil drains it runs along the frame and makes a...

All-Power America APG3014 Test Results
The All-Power America APG3014 generator with 3 Hp, JF156 engine performs OK for the price but the output power is less than advertised. Using accurate meters, an oscilloscope, and some resistive loads, I measured several output factors: 1.) voltage was 122.5 Volts. 2). reliable current was only 10 Amps (1225 watts) -- 11 Amps (1348 watts) caused the engine to slow way down and 12 Amps (1470 watts) caused the engine to stop. 3.) waveform was sinusoidal without anything plugged in but turned somewhat triangular under load. 4.) frequency was 60 Hz except while the engine throttle was adjusting to different appliance loads. When looking at the manufacturer (Jiangsu Jiangdong Group) specifications web page for their JD 1500 unit, I noticed that they rate their JF156 engine, 60 Hz unit at only 1.3 kVA (1300 watts -- not 1400 watts as advertised for the All-Power America version and with a peak output of...

Good little machine
I bought this generator for power outages and it works well for light use. I really like the light weight. It can be moved around easily. It's good on gas too. I like the charging cables that come with it for charging batteries, they plug right in the front panel. It also has a fuel guage built into the fuel tank. I found the drain on the carb very convenient for storage. The air filter has easy access wing nuts for easy cleaning. The rubber feet on the bottom keep it from "walking" across the floor when running. The only thing I didn't care for was the light on the front panel that indicates there is 120 volt power present, it is very dim, making it hard to see in the daylight, but I can live with that. I bought a second one just to have two around. If you're looking for a small generator, this is a winner!

Good choice for a small generator
If you're looking for one of the smallest/cheapest generators that can still run nearly any 120V item, this is a good choice. It's got enough power to handle starting a motor like your fridge in a power outage (which is something most would want) and one like this is the minimum size I'd trust for that job having at least ~1500 watts (but beware that their "2000 watt" main label is the surge rating and not the "continuous" number which a lot of ads do). This isn't into the $300+ category or ones that are so big you need wheels on them to save your back while moving it (but it is over 50lbs as you should expect with such equipment). With it having a 4 stroke engine you don't need deal with mixing gas/oil like some other small units need. I actually ordered this thru northern tools and when it was shipped (probably from OEM) it was double boxed to help minimize chances of damage. I've had no problems with it, but have been careful with what I run knowing it doesn't have that...

Good performance, excellent value
We live in Southern Louisiana, smack-dab in the middle of hurricane alley, and decided to purchase a backup generator to deal with power outages in the event of an emergency. I wanted sufficient power capacity to run our refrigerator, a small portable AC, a few lights, a small TV, charge our cell-phones, and occasionally charge laptop batteries. We figured that around 3000 continuous watts and 4000 surge watts would be sufficient for our needs. There are several generators sold by the hardware chains (Lowe's, Home Depot) that fit this description, but they're priced around $600 - $700. After some research on the internet, we decided that the PowerMax XP4400 would match our needs, and suit our budget...

XP4400E generator
Overall, I'm very pleased with this generator. It is definitely a good value for the money. The FedEx guy delivered it in good condition. The packaging was excellent. I pulled it out of the box, installed the wheel kit (5-10 minutes), filled it with fuel and oil and it started right up. It is fairly quiet for a generator, but keep in mind quiet is a relative thing. I would say it is definitely quieter than a lawn mower or a typical Briggs&Stratton generator with a lawnmower type muffler (this generator has an automotive type muffler which helps keep the noise down). It seems to be pretty well built and I expect it to hold up just fine. I bought it as an emergency backup generator and I feel it really is perfect for that use. I think if you are looking for a generator that will get a ton of regular use, you would probably be better off to spend the extra money and get a Honda. But for something that will only see occasional use, this genny really fits the ticket...

Power Max XP4400E & XP4400 Generator
By Ernie, Retired Journeyman Lineman. The XP4400E is well worth the extra cost over the XP4400, as starter rope must be pulled out at an angle. This is an excellent generator for the money. The voltage regulation is excellent. Amazing output for it's size along with being very quite for the output that it has. The discription Amazon has for it is great, so many items are not discribed well enough. There is a couple points I want to share with present owners and would be owners. (1) The voltage selector switch not only changes the voltage monitor 120 to 240 but it's main function is tap changing, this being the reason it must not be switched unless breaker is off (open) or generator shut down. It parallels the two power windings when set for 120 to the 120 sockets and the 120-240 socket. You can draw full capacity fron the 120 sockets or at the 120-240 socket from terminals Bu & R, the W terminal has no voltage so 240 is not available now. (Refer to owners manual...

Excellent generator
I am a Power Quality Technician for the local power company and I have much experience with electric power. This is one fine generator. I was worried the voltage would be all over the place. I placed a 2400 watt load using a Mega Beast on this and it varied by 1 volt! Nominal 120 volts. I was very happy. This will work in an emergency to keep the heat on and the beer cold as long the total watts is not exceeded. Recommended!

Good value with some reservations
Received this generator in good condition 3 days after ordering! Some assembly required, which created my first concern- the nuts & bolts supplied had very poor threads- I had to screw them together with two wrenches to loosen them up enough to use. Not a good first impression. On my unit, the 240v outlet is installed at an angle with only part of it coming through the mounting hole. Either the outlet was a little too big or the hole in the mounting plate too small, but the fact that they shipped it without correcting this is troubling. The practical result is the insulating cover that should protect the back of the 240v and the 2 120v outlets does not fit properly and bare terminals are exposed behind the panel. Finally, on my unit, starting was hard initially. Upon inspection, I found the plug wire was loose. Snapped it on and it started easily. This unit is fairly loud, but I started my 6.5 hp Craftsman lawnmower next to it for comparison and the mower was...

Great Generator for the price
UPDATE 9/21/08: Used it in the aftermath of hurricane ike. Fortunately my power was restored after only 4 days. So I was able to use the generator for a while about 40 hours continuously. It ran flawlessly, powering my 50" plasma TV, DVD player, receiver, refrigerator, and window A/C, plus countless cell phone chargers, several lights and other items. The generator ran continuously (except for a refuel and oil changes changed oil @ 20hrs) and quietly without any problems. This made what could have been a miserable ordeal into merely inconvenient. The generator was also extremely fuel efficient burning about 6 gallons a day running all of the above items (only the fridge continuously). I highly recommend this generator and am very satisfied with my purchase. Refueling was easy, and the gas gauge worked fine. BTW fuel efficiency is nice post disaster as getting gas is hard (I stockpiled 30 gallons) Original: I purchased this generator (280) before its recent...

Great generator for the money
I ordered this item recently through Amazon and am very pleased. I was leaning towards a more costly generator but finally settled on this model. The instructions for start up where easily understood and I had the unit operational in a matter of minutes. The unit runs quiet compared to other constant speed generators. I plugged my RV into the 30 amp outlet for rv applications and was able to use the AC and other electrical appliances with no problems at all. I am very happy I went this direction and not the more expensive choices.

3,000 Watt @4500 ft
Purchased this item Generator Model #46515 from Cabela's in Utah. Also purchased wheel kit for unit at same time. Brought unit home, turned over, cut off bottom of box. Now I have a cover for the unit (when it is not running and cool). 1st time startup: Followed instructions accompanying unit = did not start. 2nd time startup: After pulling start up cord 2 times, moved choke lever to 'run' position = started right up. So now I know how to start my unit: 2 pulls @ choke position ON then, 1 pull with choke OFF. Next, I applied electrical load to test capacity. Unit bogged down (sounded like it was shutting down) when I added electrical load OVER 3,250 watts total. Saw on a comment board for another generator that someone else experienced power load loss at 6500' above sea level. This is probably the case here in SLC, UT (we are at 4500' above sea level). Other than that, the unit runs with out problems (have run it about 5...

A New Driving Perspective
01.01.70
Meet Laura Winger of Arizona. She admits that since owning a Volt, it has totally changed her perspective on driving. “It's a total paradigm shift,” she says. “It feels great knowing that, while idling in traffic, stopped at a traffic light, or waiting in a drive thru line, my car can be running on electricity and not wasting gas.”
In fact, it was up to Winger, she’d never gas up again. “I haven't filled up once just for my day-to-day driving, and that's a refreshing change,” she says.
“We joke about our own version of electric range anxiety, because none of us like using gas at all anymore, even if it’s minimal,” she says. Winger says she’s also learned to drive efficiently enough to avoid using gas, even when she has to go farther than her typically commute. “As more charging stations become available, it's become easier to charge up for an hour or so while I'm doing something else, avoiding gas even for a few miles.”
