20KW Runs the whole house!
In May I will have had this generator installed for 2 years. I have had ZERO problems with it! Just like it is supposed to it "wakes up" every Monday morning and runs at half speed for about 12 minutes to keep everything limber. Recently, I discovered Amazon had the maintenance kit for only $13.97. It has a new air filter, oil filter and 2 spark plugs. Generac recommends changing the oil at 200 hours or 2 years whichever comes first, so my plan is to change the oil at the 2 year boundary next month. I have had 2 complete power failures here in the country over the last 2 years. One lasted about an hour and a half. Both times the generator started in the required 10 seconds or less and the power transferred automatically. I had to laugh when I saw the power company truck drive by looking for the outage and our lights were the only ones on. Grin!! But I am a retired Electrical Engineer and I KNOW how this stuff works. This 20kw unit has practically rock solid...

Held up wonderfully during a 50+ hour outage
I purchased a new construction home four months ago and had two options for a back-up system for the sump pumps in my finished basement: (i) a battery back up with a three hour life, or; (ii) the 20 kW Generac Guardian Series Generator. I went with the generator and it was worth every penny. Three days ago a massive storm rolled through the Chicago area and two tornadoes touched down very close to my home. Electric service to more than 400,000 homes and businesses went out - but the generator kicked on within about 10 seconds of the outage. After 2+ days (about 50 hours after the outage) our power came back on. This generator ran the entire time, powering two refrigerators, two air conditioner units, the entertainment center in my home and a number of lights and outlets. No problems whatsoever: no flickering, no failing, nothing. It did cut down a tad when the air conditioners kicked on but immediately regained full stride. What a machine. When power was restored I checked the oil -...

Generac 5875 Best investment
Over a year now we bought this and had it wired by local contractor, came with 200 amp transfer panel. Peace of mind when the power goes out, count to 13 and varoom back on.....this has enough power to run the whole house (3500 Sq FT 2 story) 2 fridges. When the power comes back it idles and cools down and shuts off. Normal homes here have 150 amp service, this was designed to handle a normal house without over taxing the generator. Common sense says don't run the microwave or hair dryers but it can handle if it has too. We live in Houston TX and when power goes out gas is hard to find for regular generators, this is plumbed into natural gas line and doesn't require much maintenance. Mobil 1 oil filter 209 fits and has larger capacity. Super easy to change filter and oil, everything is right in the front. This is probably the best investment we have added to our home.

HOT, HOT , HOT
After our recent tornadoes we decided the ability to have hot showers etc warranted the purchase of a portable generator. Calculated the watts we needed and we needed the top end of the portables. Looked at several and ordered what I thought was a GP8000 however got a GP7500. Amazon adjusted the price as they will not accept anything that may contain gasoline back even unopened. Amazon now has the right one listed. Assembly was easy attached wheels handle etc no prpblems with assembly and it fired up and ran smoothly. There is a quirk you should be aware of. The generator does not recharge the starter battery. It takes a seperate plug in charger to keep the generator's battery charged. Alredy had the house set up to simply flip switchs and have it on generator power but before we plugged it in the house circuit I decided to plug some 110 volt tools into it to test it. My Bosch drill ran and sparked like I had never seen before so I decided to get...

Beautiful Generator, so far so good!
Ordered this after 4 power outages this summer, not to mention the outage last winter that was 3 days in 10-15 degrees F. Overall this unit is impressive for the price per watt. I was hoping that this generator was made in Wisconsin but it is not. Rather it is made in China. That being said there are high quality products that come out of China, you just have to find them. Assembling the unit only took about 20 minutes. Here are some quick specs: The engine is a 420cc, 14HP air cooled 4-stroke with overhead valves (OHV) w/electric start (battery included). The surge rating is 9375W with a 7500W running watts rating. The fuel tank holds 8 gallons and is rated 12 hours @ half load for run time. Here is an easy way to assemble the unit: 1. First was remove it from the box by cutting the box off and leaving the generator on the pallet. This will assist with the next step installing the wheels. 2. Remove the (2)...

Strong Generator with no issues
Purchased this generator locally here in CT in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. No power for 5 days, this genset is running 15 hours per day with no issue whatsoever. I have it back-fed into my breaker panel, powering well pump, refridgerators, lights, microwave, garage door openers, dsl modem, wifi and complete home network. I've been getting 14 hours of run time from a single tank of gas, call it 10 gallons. More than I thought possible. Last night, ran a bunch of appliances, trying to max the genset out, and after 5 hours, had used only 2.5 gallons of gas.The genset is noisy, but I've got behind a pool shed, so it doesn't bother us much at all.Highly recommended. Make sure to buy the NEMA 30 Amp plug, part number NEMA 14L 30P when you order this so you can plug directly in to the 220v side of the generator.Update. Today is 11/12/11. Here in CT, we're just coming off of an 8 day power outage as a result...

Think twice....
We bought this Generac GP5500 as part of a deal with our electrician when he installed a transfer switch in out home. I was impressed by the solid construction of this genset and the strong build of the frame/cage. The power generated is as advertised. It is not unduly loud either, and is held down to a reasonable sound level when the windows in the house are closed and the unit is running out in the driveway. Anyway, I dutifully exercised this generator every month for a 15 minute run under load. It provided enough power to keep my essentials on in my home. I put about 5-6 oz. of fresh fuel with stabilizer in it for each run. After about 15 minutes under load, I switched off the load, and then ran it until the fuel ran out. I then turned off the fuel valve and put it back in the garage. I also changed the oil when it first hit 2.0 hours of run time. After about 5 months of owning this machine, it suddenly started spewing fuel all over...

Generac GP5500 saved the day
I recently purchased this Generac GP5500 Model 5939 (Not from Amazon) during an online sale from another retailer. With free shipping, the generator took about 5-7 business days to arrive. It arrived at my house on a Thursday, and we had a major wind storm/tornado come through our town on Sunday evening. Luckily I had installed the wheel/handle kit that Sunday afternoon, so when the storm hit, all I had to do was fill up the gas tank and insert the quart of oil that shipped with the unit and we were ready to go. I was truly amazed, all I did was set the choke to full, and with one pull the generator started the very first time!!! I hooked up some 120v extension cords to run the essential items in our house (2 refrigerators, 1 freezer) and another chord to the 240v outlet to power our travel trailer where our family stayed during the power outage. The storm took out our electric power for over 2 full days, and the generator ran for over 42 hours the entire time (only shutoff to...

Same engine as cheapy generators that cost half as much
I have no complaint about the generator other then the engine is made in an " unknown private overseas vender" (china??). Look at some pics, the gp5500 has the same engine found in all the cheap chinease generators that cost half as much. I am really upset that i spent $780.00 w/tax for this generator from GENERAC! only to find out later its a cheap generator like a chicago, champion, homelite etc. I bought it because it was a generac and it was suppossed to be made in america = quality. I could have spent half the money and gotten the same product that was not hiding behind a name that used to be known for amarican quality.

buyer beware!!!!!
I am the proud owner of a well-maintained dead generac 16Kw generator with a whopping 72 hours of use, mostly exercise cycle time. The generac we originally purchased was unable to hold oil upon delivery, and was eventually replaced under warranty. Four years later during a brief power outage a couple of weeks ago our generac failed. The local dealer determined the rotor, the most expensive component to replace, had failed. If you do some research, you will find that this is a fairly common problem. We approached the manufacturer with a warranty claim, but, since their warranty was only two years, the best they were willing to do is sell us the replacement part at their cost, about $565 and leave me to eat the labor to install (including diagnostics to determine problem), another $300. So, let's see, they are only willing to forgo their profit on a part that was engineered to last for 20 years and failed at about 20% of life expectancy, and is well-known to do so. Not...

Save your money and buy candles & flashlights
I've had my Generac generator for 5 years and the two times I've needed it, it's failed within 1 hour of use. It "excercised" fine weekly and was regularly maintained by a Generac Service Provider but still didn't work when needed. Over the course of five years we've had to replace an electrical board, the rotor, the stator, the brushes and the last straw was one morning while excercising, the engine blew blowing a hole in the side of the block. Generac's "resolution team" was absolutely no help, simply repeating that the warranty expired after three years. Avoid these things like the plague and get yourself a good portable generator.

No big problems
I had one of these installed a few years ago after Hurricane Rita knocked out my power; my neighbors and my ex thought I was nuts and was waisting my money. I make sure that I hear it excercise every week and I have it serviced at the beginning of hurricane season every year. The one problem I did have with it was a blown fuse that had to be replaced by a local service provider. The diligence paid off two years ago in Hurricane Ike. The unit ran for 3 days without interuption. We were the only house with lights and power in the neighborhood; that alone was worth the initial ridicule but the icing on the cake was hearing the second-hand comments about how I was right all along. I will never own another house without a generator

Well made product
The Generac 10,000 watt standby generator is a very well put together product. I was impressed with the cabinet design, how compact it was, the ease of installation, and the function of the transfer switch. Unlike what is said in another review, all standby generators from Generac are made in the U.S. The engine has a feature called full pressure lubrication which extends engine life and allows the product to have a longer maintenance interval. I like that because it means lower maintenance costs. I like the external indicator lights that show you what is happening and I love the clean power feature which means the unit will power your sensitive electronics like flat screen TV's without an issue. Oh, did I mention it's quiet too!
Pleased with Generac Guardian 5871
We just got through hurricane Irene - we were without power for 3 days. We had installed the generator last year - they were trials and tribulations to get it installed correctly - fortunately we had our company electrician who is not cheap - but very good assist. Once we got it up and running and made sure it was set to propane - generator works like a champ. The past 3 days (ran continuously for 50 hours) it earned its keep. Impressive efficient fuel usage. Keep in mind to limit how much load is put on. We had 2 fridges some lights, and computer system (needed to work from the house). Keep up the good work Generac.
High Quality Whole House Generator with Amazing Features
I like the feature that allows me to continue to use my computer and TV without worrying about losing my work or frying my 50" flat screen! The design make it easy to use and maintain and the automatic weekly test give me piece of mind that it will work when I really need it.

Generac climbs as analyst lifts rating
01.01.70
Generac shares hit an all-time high Wednesday and Goldman Sachs predicted strong demand from clients through next year for the backup power generation maker.
THE SPARK: Jerry Revich of Goldman Sachs boosted Generac to "Buy" from "Neutral." In a client note, Revich said that Generac is seeing strong demand for its stand-by generators because power disturbances reached the highest level in 20 years during just the first eight months of 2011.
THE ANALYSIS: "Generac is optimally positioned to benefit from continued underinvestment in the U.S. electricity distribution infrastructure - the key driver of generator demand," Revich wrote.
The analyst said that Goldman Sachs analysts don't expect distribution capital spending to increase enough to make significant changes in power system reliability, especially when consumers and industrial customers are concerned about rising electricity costs. Without being able to spend more to make power systems more reliable, power disturbances occur and people start looking for stand-by generators.
But Generac had been manufacturing portable generators since the 1960s. In 1998, Generac sold the assets of the Portable Products Division and assigned
