Charges Apple products, does what it claims, well made
I ordered the K-Tor Pocket Socket after being without power for three days (snow storm) and finding out that my Eton crank radio could not charge our iPhones (thanks A LOT Apple!! Not supported!!). The item was shipped the same day I ordered it and arrived considerably before I expected it and in good shape. The item is well made and it does what it claims to do. I tested it on my iPod 4G; have not on my iPhone 3G yet but see no reason it should not charge that also. Be aware that there is some serious resistance when turning this crank. I found the crank turns quite easily when you start but resistance is felt as soon as the charging process begins. It is not like turning the crank on an Eton radio and you will tire out more quickly than cranking a "doomsday radio". You will want to turn at a consistent rate rather than try charge your device quickly. All in all, a good product and a great feeling to buy something made in America again.

Great product
I and my husband love camping and hiking. The problem was to keep our cellphones and cameras charged. All products we tried before could not bring our devices back especially when batteries were completely dead. It was the last our attempt. According description it was exactly what we looked for. First, the generator arrived in 2 days after we placed an order. It was sort of nice. In nice box with detailed instruction. Second, it really worked. I could charge my kindle which was completely dead. It took a while, but I did it. My son could charge his iphone. Also it worked with my portable dvd player. So next summer we will take it for hiking. Pro: Pocket socket works exactly as it promised, it charges not only cell phones but different devices:)It is small and light. Contra: the only thing I found inconvenient - the device is a little bit too big for my hands. My hand are very small. But my husband and son had no problems working with it. Hope...

Works
Will bring a phone back from a dead battery. Try it. It also charges a wide range of devices which is nice, iPhone and droids. You do have to crank at two cycles per second, a quick pace like they say. But it does what they say it will.

Cheap and high quality emergency radio
This radio is a great little investment. It does exactly everything it states it should. On a 60 second crank I got hours of play. I ran the radio completely dead by leaving the light on and the radio playing at half column. I let the radio play like this with the light on for at least an hour before it went dead. I then put it out in the sun and let it charge with the solar charger for about four hours and then turned the radio on and let it play for only about an hour and then just didn't want to complete the experiment. I am very pleased with this radio. 60 seconds of cranking for hours of play is very reasonable. Letting it charge out in the sun and getting hours of play is very reasonable. I have other brands like this in the past that you would crank for 5 to 10 and get maybe 10 minutes of play.

Very good product for what it's designed for
I read numerous reviews about this product and had concerns re: people's feedback -- quality, lack of A/C power adapter, time/effort to recharge a cell phone, USB charger which is useless when there's no power, etc. But I decided to buy one just because I've got a young family and it's my responsibility [gulp] to be at least minimally prepared. You got to admit that these storms in recent years (not to mention tornados, earthquakes, fires, and other disasters that occur constantly) demonstrate that help may take days or weeks to arrive. That's a long time when you remember that lights, ATM's, radios, etc don't work when bad things happen. So I pulled the trigger w/ low expectations and am I glad I did. These FR-160's are ideal for their purpose: they provide basic lighting & communication (read: radio/weather) in case of emergency. The quality was shockingly good for only $30. And they're small -- pretend your hand is in a mitten and subtract your thumb...about that...

Pleasantly surprised with the battery life
This radio is an excellent radio for the price. No, it is not a top-end emergency radio, but it should work rather well for anyone looking for a basic AM/FM/Weather radio with both a solar and hand-crank charging option. I purchased mine about a year ago and used it only occasionally for the first few months. Then I placed it on a shelf with limited light and there it sat for about six to eight months. About six weeks ago I dusted it off and it actually worked for about an hour or so with no hand-crank charging. Later that day I sat it in the front window where it would get plenty of direct sun light. A couple days later I picked it up from the window and have been using it a few hours each day since; some of those days it was used for more than six hours in the basement. I have not needed to crank it at all, but did crank charge it for about one minute total just while playing with it - for the record. Since then, I have been keeping it on the shelf out in the open where it is...

BEST. THING. EVER
One thing I have always wanted to get was a Hand Generator, and the Genecon Hand Generator is the perfect product for me. Every now and then, I always need a hand, and this hand generator delivers. A few simple turns of the crank generates a full human hand to help you in any situaton: 1. use it as a wrench 2. ask it to hold something 3. give it to a hobo 4. glue it to your roomates forehead 5. staple it to the wall 6. throw it at ducks in the park 7. or just carry it around and hold it up proudly, saying "Thank you Genecon...thank you" I cant describe how many times I've needed a hand and Genecon's product really does what its supposed to do. I love you genecon

Best Solar Powered Radio For The Price....No Battery Option
Weather radios are sort of a hobby of mine. There is just about no place I can go on my property that there isn't one within reach somewhere. Six different brands are represented presently by what I own, including a more expensive Eton that is not my best radio. This small, (and I mean small) new line from Eton is a whole new animal to be sure. Its controls and design are very user friendly. And the reception on all channels, including the weather, is very loud and clear. Its true that the dial numbers for the AM FM are very small as some other reviewers have mentioned and can make it hard to tune accurately. But that is something common, as well as for me expected in a radio so small. What sets this unit apart from all the others I own in my opinion is its price and solar power. It is without a doubt the cheapest weather radio I have come across that is solar powered. Big, small, or otherwise. Even though one has been able to buy solar powered calculators at discount stores...

The Perfect Emergency Radio!
The reasons this Eton-manufactured emergency radio is the ideal emergency radio are: 1) small, compact size, 2) shock-absorbing case, 3) sensitive AM/FM/NOAA Weather tuner picks up weak signals, 4) handy 3-LED flashlight on left-hand end of the radio's case, 5) Earphone jack under dust cover on the right-hand side of the case, 6) USB port under same dust cover on the right-hand side of the case, 7) All radio bands will run 4-5 hours at low volume on full charge of the internal NiMH battery, 8) Solar panel on top of the radio's case is strong enough to power the radio indefinitely (as long as the solar panel is 'seeing' daylight), 9) the internal NiMH can be re-charged via the solar panel during daylight hours, an external transformer or the hand-cranked dynamo. You get all of these features for the low price of $30, plus free 'Super Saver' shipping from Amazon.Com. You can pay a lot more for an emergency radio and get a whole lot less!

Quick, easy, intuitive Plug-n-charge
This charger comes with the panel, a standard mini-USB cable and suction cups to mount it to a window. I have an IPhone 3G. It does not come with an IPhone adapter cable, but mine plugs into the USB_OUT port just fine, no problems. The mini_IN plug is for charging the device using a computer or laptop if there is no sun. There are indicator lights on the back. Press the center button and 25-50-75-100% illuminates to give you an estimate of charge remaining on the panels internal battery. Nice little LED light. charged quickly in sunlight and just as quickly plugged into desktop. Great to have for power outages or when the elusive plug in an airport just doesn't materialize. This is a great little product worth the price shipped quickly and arrived on time. Very pleased and should probably be a spokesperson for the thing they way I've been showing it off everyone asks when they see it. I charged an almost dead IPhone and it still had 50% charge left. PLUS you can use the phone...

XTG SOL1500 Premium Solar Charger Review
Been into Solar Chargers for the past 6 months. Interest in solar charges grew from wanting to be prepared for emergencies. The electronic devices that I have are powered through AA, AAA, and USB sources. Therefore, my focus was on finding a solar charger that can power one or any combination of the three. I was hopeful for this solar charger would be able to charge my iPhone and Sanyo Eneloop USB Battery Charger. The Sanyo Eneloop USB Battery Charger can charge either up to two AA or AAA batteries at a time. This is the review of the XTG SOL1500 Premium Solar Charger. First, this solar charger appeared to be of quality build. It is roughly the size of an iPhone, but significantly lighter. The item arrived in new condition, well aligned, and finished nicely. Second, the solar panel is able to charge the internal Lithium Ion battery very fast. I never had the charger completely drained, but it never took more than several hours in full sun to completely charge the...

Great Solar Charger
This solar charger is a great buy. I have not tried charging the unit via USB, but is charges up fine in the sun. I have used it to charge my phone, Ipod, and Bluetooth headset without any problems. It seems well constructed. I thought that the LED flashlight would be cheap but it actually seems well constructed and bright. I do wish they made a way of attaching this thing to a backpack for charging on the go. Other than that no complaints.

Sammamish Families: Prepare Your Family for Winter Storms and Disasters

01.01.70

The weather turned colder this week and winter has definitely arrived. We've gathered tips from two local experts on what you can do to better prepare your family for the next natural disaster - be it snow, wind or an earthquake.

Plan ahead for ice and snow with items for your car

Lindsey Walimaki is a Corporate Communications Program Manager for Puget Sound Energy. She says living in Sammamish can create some additional challenges during winter storms that all plateau families should prepare for.

“With many hills on the Eastside, it’s important to have chains and other preparedness items in your car in case you encounter ice or snow on the roadway. Some preparedness items include an emergency preparedness kit, flares, winter clothing for travelers, hand warmers, blankets, rain gear and safety beacons. For a complete list, view the Winter Weather Driving Checklist at takewinterbystorm.org,” Walimaki says.
