HOT, HOT , HOT
After our recent tornadoes we decided the ability to have hot showers etc warranted the purchase of a portable generator. Calculated the watts we needed and we needed the top end of the portables. Looked at several and ordered what I thought was a GP8000 however got a GP7500. Amazon adjusted the price as they will not accept anything that may contain gasoline back even unopened. Amazon now has the right one listed. Assembly was easy attached wheels handle etc no prpblems with assembly and it fired up and ran smoothly. There is a quirk you should be aware of. The generator does not recharge the starter battery. It takes a seperate plug in charger to keep the generator's battery charged. Alredy had the house set up to simply flip switchs and have it on generator power but before we plugged it in the house circuit I decided to plug some 110 volt tools into it to test it. My Bosch drill ran and sparked like I had never seen before so I decided to get...

Beautiful Generator, so far so good!
Ordered this after 4 power outages this summer, not to mention the outage last winter that was 3 days in 10-15 degrees F. Overall this unit is impressive for the price per watt. I was hoping that this generator was made in Wisconsin but it is not. Rather it is made in China. That being said there are high quality products that come out of China, you just have to find them. Assembling the unit only took about 20 minutes. Here are some quick specs: The engine is a 420cc, 14HP air cooled 4-stroke with overhead valves (OHV) w/electric start (battery included). The surge rating is 9375W with a 7500W running watts rating. The fuel tank holds 8 gallons and is rated 12 hours @ half load for run time. Here is an easy way to assemble the unit: 1. First was remove it from the box by cutting the box off and leaving the generator on the pallet. This will assist with the next step installing the wheels. 2. Remove the (2)...

Strong Generator with no issues
Purchased this generator locally here in CT in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. No power for 5 days, this genset is running 15 hours per day with no issue whatsoever. I have it back-fed into my breaker panel, powering well pump, refridgerators, lights, microwave, garage door openers, dsl modem, wifi and complete home network. I've been getting 14 hours of run time from a single tank of gas, call it 10 gallons. More than I thought possible. Last night, ran a bunch of appliances, trying to max the genset out, and after 5 hours, had used only 2.5 gallons of gas.The genset is noisy, but I've got behind a pool shed, so it doesn't bother us much at all.Highly recommended. Make sure to buy the NEMA 30 Amp plug, part number NEMA 14L 30P when you order this so you can plug directly in to the 220v side of the generator.Update. Today is 11/12/11. Here in CT, we're just coming off of an 8 day power outage as a result...

Rock Solid
Purchased the Briggs & Stratton generator before a pending hurricane. Assembled it quickly and ran non-stop for 43 hours straight! Was able to run three refrigerators, one freezer, sump pump, TV, and several lights with no problem. My fuel consumption was 2.5 gallons every 9 hours, better than advertised. The metal tank is a great touch, proven engine, and great warranty.

Very Disappointing
Good reasonable delivery. Arrived 1 day after Hurricane Irene. Started right up and ran well for about 16 hours, then ran rough (according to instructions I changed the oil after the first 8 hours). It did give me the power that I had expected when I ordered the generator and I was initally quite happy with the purchase. However, after another 4 hours it stopped producing electricity but the engine continued to run normally -after about 1 minute it sounded like a bucket of bolts dumped into a clothes dryer, or a bunch of gears stripping themselves apart. Very frustrating, expecially since we had had the foresight to order the generator before we had known that Irene would target us and we were now dependent upon its' services. However, I have to say the Amazon person I talked with was very supportive and helpful, and I was satisfied with the results. Unfortunately I will be looking for a new generator and it will not be a Briggs and Stratton!

Very Good Generator
I bought this generator during hurricane Irene to power a refrigerator and a few other appliances in the house. This generator was very easy to setup and there is nothing `cheap' or flimsy about it, even the wheels look like they were meant to last. For the same watts, it looks like this one weighs 20+ pounds more than a similarly sized `no name / house brand' generator. I'm not sure that necessarily makes it better (or worse), but I like the fact that the engine is a brand serviceable by many local dealers. Yes, it is loud like the others have mentioned, but I don't know how it compares to other similarly sized generators.

All-Power America APG3014 Test Results
The All-Power America APG3014 generator with 3 Hp, JF156 engine performs OK for the price but the output power is less than advertised. Using accurate meters, an oscilloscope, and some resistive loads, I measured several output factors: 1.) voltage was 122.5 Volts. 2). reliable current was only 10 Amps (1225 watts) -- 11 Amps (1348 watts) caused the engine to slow way down and 12 Amps (1470 watts) caused the engine to stop. 3.) waveform was sinusoidal without anything plugged in but turned somewhat triangular under load. 4.) frequency was 60 Hz except while the engine throttle was adjusting to different appliance loads. When looking at the manufacturer (Jiangsu Jiangdong Group) specifications web page for their JD 1500 unit, I noticed that they rate their JF156 engine, 60 Hz unit at only 1.3 kVA (1300 watts -- not 1400 watts as advertised for the All-Power America version and with a peak output of...

Good little machine
I bought this generator for power outages and it works well for light use. I really like the light weight. It can be moved around easily. It's good on gas too. I like the charging cables that come with it for charging batteries, they plug right in the front panel. It also has a fuel guage built into the fuel tank. I found the drain on the carb very convenient for storage. The air filter has easy access wing nuts for easy cleaning. The rubber feet on the bottom keep it from "walking" across the floor when running. The only thing I didn't care for was the light on the front panel that indicates there is 120 volt power present, it is very dim, making it hard to see in the daylight, but I can live with that. I bought a second one just to have two around. If you're looking for a small generator, this is a winner!

Good choice for a small generator
If you're looking for one of the smallest/cheapest generators that can still run nearly any 120V item, this is a good choice. It's got enough power to handle starting a motor like your fridge in a power outage (which is something most would want) and one like this is the minimum size I'd trust for that job having at least ~1500 watts (but beware that their "2000 watt" main label is the surge rating and not the "continuous" number which a lot of ads do). This isn't into the $300+ category or ones that are so big you need wheels on them to save your back while moving it (but it is over 50lbs as you should expect with such equipment). With it having a 4 stroke engine you don't need deal with mixing gas/oil like some other small units need. I actually ordered this thru northern tools and when it was shipped (probably from OEM) it was double boxed to help minimize chances of damage. I've had no problems with it, but have been careful with what I run knowing it doesn't have that...

Read the fine print on the warranty
I have a brand new Generac 15kw with a bad alternator - the unit only has 2 hours running time on it. I was able to find a local company to perform the warranty work but the warranty DOES NOT cover transportation charges - in other words, I've got to pay to have the guys come out to do the warranty work. Generac claims that this is a portable unit, and therefore they don't need to cover transportation costs. Well, the unit weighs more than 300 lbs empty, add in 20 gallons of gas, and it isn't very portable at all. I'm really disgusted to have to pay to have warranty work done on my brand new unit.

Great generator
Bought this generator on line, Have used it to power the whole house and it did great. Fuel used matched what they said it would. At 9000 watts it was half loaded and did great. A 3/4 HP water pump started up in addition and it handled the load perfecty. It will use more fuel then smaller generators but that is to be expected as it has a lot bigger motor and generator. Good construction, Well built, heavy but built to last. Rating of watts is 15000, some manufactures would have rated it at 22500.... 12 below zero and starts right up. Best safety net a person can buy.

OK Machine, Terrible support
The generator came with a damaged cooling fan. We have been trying for almost 4 months to get a replacement and the official word from Generac is its "back ordered". Nothing more. I would strongly consider another brand before purchasing from a company that can not support their products.

Good performance, excellent value
We live in Southern Louisiana, smack-dab in the middle of hurricane alley, and decided to purchase a backup generator to deal with power outages in the event of an emergency. I wanted sufficient power capacity to run our refrigerator, a small portable AC, a few lights, a small TV, charge our cell-phones, and occasionally charge laptop batteries. We figured that around 3000 continuous watts and 4000 surge watts would be sufficient for our needs. There are several generators sold by the hardware chains (Lowe's, Home Depot) that fit this description, but they're priced around $600 - $700. After some research on the internet, we decided that the PowerMax XP4400 would match our needs, and suit our budget...

XP4400E generator
Overall, I'm very pleased with this generator. It is definitely a good value for the money. The FedEx guy delivered it in good condition. The packaging was excellent. I pulled it out of the box, installed the wheel kit (5-10 minutes), filled it with fuel and oil and it started right up. It is fairly quiet for a generator, but keep in mind quiet is a relative thing. I would say it is definitely quieter than a lawn mower or a typical Briggs&Stratton generator with a lawnmower type muffler (this generator has an automotive type muffler which helps keep the noise down). It seems to be pretty well built and I expect it to hold up just fine. I bought it as an emergency backup generator and I feel it really is perfect for that use. I think if you are looking for a generator that will get a ton of regular use, you would probably be better off to spend the extra money and get a Honda. But for something that will only see occasional use, this genny really fits the ticket...

Power Max XP4400E & XP4400 Generator
By Ernie, Retired Journeyman Lineman. The XP4400E is well worth the extra cost over the XP4400, as starter rope must be pulled out at an angle. This is an excellent generator for the money. The voltage regulation is excellent. Amazing output for it's size along with being very quite for the output that it has. The discription Amazon has for it is great, so many items are not discribed well enough. There is a couple points I want to share with present owners and would be owners. (1) The voltage selector switch not only changes the voltage monitor 120 to 240 but it's main function is tap changing, this being the reason it must not be switched unless breaker is off (open) or generator shut down. It parallels the two power windings when set for 120 to the 120 sockets and the 120-240 socket. You can draw full capacity fron the 120 sockets or at the 120-240 socket from terminals Bu & R, the W terminal has no voltage so 240 is not available now. (Refer to owners manual...

Prepare Now for Winter Weather

01.01.70

Winter precipitation can create treacherous conditions for driving. Tennesseans are strongly encouraged to avoid driving on slick roads if at all possible. Talk with your employer about options for working from home when roads are dangerous. If you must drive, use extreme caution and try to take streets that have been treated with salt or brine to remove ice. Make sure you have plenty of fuel in your vehicle, and that tires are properly inflated. Drivers should also be prepared with emergency supplies in their vehicles, including blankets, water, a windshield scraper and a first aid kit. Be sure to wear seat belts as always and make sure children are properly restrained any time they’re in a vehicle.

“I cannot stress enough the importance of being prepared before you hit the road this winter. In addition to an emergency kit, if possible, take a cell phone and charger with you. If you encounter problems on the roadways, dial *THP to directly contact the Tennessee Highway Patrol. State troopers are ready to assist motorists who may need help on roadways,” Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons said.
