A good choice
I considered many of the alternatives before purchasing the B&S 30470, and I'm happy with my decision. I was hoping to find a model that was not manufactured in China because there have been a lot of quality control problems with hardware (and food products) that come out of China and when you are purchasing a 200 pound product, you really don't want to take a chance on having something go wrong that will require you to bring it/ship it somewhere because of a problem. Unfortunately, it seems that virtually all of the generators in this price range are manufactured in China, including this one. B&S is a US company, but as others have noted in nearby reviews: much of their manufacturing is in China. But since they are a US company and they do have a brand name to protect, that was slightly reassuring. Also, if something ever does go wrong with it, there are plenty of small engine shops around that should be able to work on it. The Honeywell models also...
Briggs and Stratton 30470
I am a Consumer Reports subscriber (magazine and online), this generator is brand new for 2010 and it has not yet been reviewed by Consumer Reports. The last ratings they have for generators was in June of 2009, one of the top ranked then was Briggs and Stratton model#30242. I purchased model#30470 from Ace Hardware because at the time it was cheaper than Amazon(same price now). This generator comes almost fully assembled, all I had to do was put on the wheels and add oil, (provided) gas and connect the negative battery terminal. It started with the key on the first try and I don't think it is loud at all, my neighbors even commented on how quiet it is for a generator (my Echo Backpack leaf blower (74 dB(A) is almost as loud as this generator). I have run this generator at half-load 3,500 running watts using 30 and 20 amp extension cords and have had no problems. I fully expect this generator to handle the brutal New England winters without a problem.

Unexpected Damage
I purchased this generator after researching for quite awhile. The reviews on all websites were overwhelmingly positive, and I have always been well pleased with Briggs and Stratton products. However, after receiving this shipment I found that the choke was broken off the carburetor, two rear engine mount bolts were sheared off at the heads, and the negative battery terminal had one end broken off. None off these pieces were located anywhere near each other that would suggest damage from being dropped. I inspected the box as I received it and there was absolutely no damage to the container. So this generator must have left the factory in this condition. After fixing the battery cable, the engine mount bolts, rigging the choke, and completing all necessary preparation procedures - I stared the generator up by electric start and immediately heard a loud screeching from the manual pull rewind. A Solid Emergency Power Source
At first the lack of reviews and some issues discussed with other models made me leery of this purchase, but after research on other sites and talking to people here in the Northeast who used their generators after the ice storms heavily, I decided on this generator and I am very pleased. Very questionable quality
After waiting almost a month for it to come in stock Amazon finally shipped my 30471. No problems with the delivery or the state of packaging. Once opened the box I was surprised to see that manufacturing date was January 2010 which did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling about it. Upon further inspection I have noticed that inside base of the metal fuel tank is already have early indicators of rusting. To top it off, after fueling it up almost to a full, the fuel gauge is not working and sitting at empty. A call to Briggs only added further frustration as the woman answered the phone after 20+ minute hold time (which was suppose to be only 3 minutes as per the automated system) was the nastiest, most unhelpful customer I every had with my entire dealing with any customer support line. I was expecting any minute for for her to curse me for calling the customer support. First she says she can't find anything in English on the unit and then she claims that there is no gas gauge on...

Great Generator That Got Us Through the Aftermath of Irene
This generator functioned very well when we needed it. During Hurricane Irene, we lost power. Fortunately, we had installed a generator connection sub-panel. This generator worked perfectly to give us the power we needed until our electricity was restored. The generator came well-packaged with easy to understand instructions. The wheel kit was the only thing that needed to be assembled. After attaching the negative wire to the battery and adding some oil, the machine was ready to go. After making sure that the fuel feed was in the "on" position, the generator started on the first try with the key-start. Although it is not "quiet," it is probably more quiet than other generators with similar power ratings. For the money, this is a great generator that I do not hesitate to recommend to anyone needing a portable gasoline powered generator with 8,000 watts of running power.

This PSU replaced an OCZ stealthXstream psu and by every regard it's of much, much higher quality. The PSU is very large so if you're not bottom mounting it be absolutely sure your case can tolerate a 10 pound brick at the top. The 24-pin connector cord is extremely long, giving people like me the ability to run it behind the motherboard (cord management) without the need of buying a 24-pin extension. It's modular so you only need to plug in the cords you need. And best of all, it's ultra quiet. I have six 120mm intake fans (3 intake, 1 cpu, 1 gpu, 1 exhaust) and one 200mm exhaust. My computer sounds like a floor vent when the AC is blowing; just a quiet hum of air moving. No whisp, no whine. Right away it was noticeably quieter than the OCZ psu this replaced. Corsair HX750W PSU
Pros: 750+ Watts of power on a single 60 Amp rail. I say 750+ because multiple reviews by reputable PC forums have shown the HX750W to be almost virtually identical to its HX850W sibling. I've seen reports of HX750Ws putting out 900+ volts with outstanding noise and ripple values on the line. My system draws perhaps 200 Watts at any given time, give or take, but just knowing that I have the headroom (as well as the efficiency even at a mere 20% load on the PSU, as demonstrated by the 80 Plus Silver certification) is nice. The 7 year warranty and 100,000 hour MTBF mean that this PSU has the potential to(and should, according to the MTBF) run for a solid 11 years. Outstanding! Cons: Um... help me out here. A PSU from a proven manufacturer with one of the best warranties in the industry and outstanding performance... can't say I see too many cons, at least so far. Fantastic Product, but Amazon shipped this poorly.
The HX850 is an outstanding product, works perfect with 0 issues. More than ample power for complete quad-SLI/XFire. The cable management is fantastic, and the packaging of the product from Corsair was outstanding. I gave this item 5 stars for the product, but not for the shipping.. Be aware of Amazon's shipping for this item, I received this product in a box 3x the size of the package, with nothing stopping the package from moving N/S/E/W, the only thing in the box was loose(yes loose) air bagging on top of it. 1 Star for Amazon's shipping. I pay for Amazon Prime and I have never seen such poor shipping, of all the times though, it is on one of the most expensive items I have purchased here, very unsatisfied. Great price on a great generator
I just recieved my new generator today. Amazon delivery was amazing. The truck line called. backed up to my door at my convienience, and me and the driver had it off the truck in less than 5 minutes. Keep in mind this is a 2 person job. Adding to the plus for the delivery is that it was absolutly free. It took me a total of 10 minutes to install the wheels,support bracket, attach the battery cable(yes it does come with the battery installed),fill with the supplied oil and put in some gas. One little choke and the unit fired off a lot sooner than I anticipated. I ran some electrical power tools to make sure the unit was putting out power and they all worked flawlessly. I searched far and wide untill I settled on this unit. The Vangaurd engine ( built by mitsubishi according to The Briggs rep I talked to) was the major selling point. Dead Generator - Dead Customer Service
I purchased my generator from Home Depot on 13 April. I had a licensed electrician install a manual transfer switch. On 8 June, we had our first power outage. The generator started up immediately and ran for 10 minutes and then shut down. On restart, it ran for 5 minutes and shut down. After about an hour of this we decided to just weather the 96 degree heat with no electricity. The next morning, I called Briggs & Stratton and followed their voice prompts which gave me the name of a local "Briggs & Stratton authorized warranty repair facility". I loaded this monstrous machine into my SUV and drove it over to the designated facility. About an hour later, I received a call that the "authorized Briggs & Stratton warranty repair facility" could not do the work because the Briggs & Stratton generator had a Generac motor on it. One great machine
We have had our generator for close to a year now and it has never failed to do what it is needed to do. I have to say that we are happy campers indeed. It is extremely important that we have equipment that can handle heavy and persistent work loads at times. We have to rely on this generator completely in our wilderness off the grid location when there is inadequate solar gain to power our home and pump our water. We use ours every single day at times. This unit works so well that THREE of our neighbors have bought the exact some model for use at their own places after seeing ours in action. I have heard absolutely no complaints... only raves from all of them. I'm not sure why some others here have had issues... but none of us have.

The Silent Assassin
I've just completed my budget PC build using this PSU and everything worked as it should. However, what surprised me was how quiet this PSU is. In fact, I can't even tell if my PC is on or off! It's surprisingly quiet compared to my old PSU from Antec. Obviously, my build just completed and so it's still fairly new. At the moment though, this PSU rocks!
